City of Leduc recommits to reconciliACTION

This recognition date is specific to Leduc and provides a chance to review the City’s recent efforts to address Truth and Reconciliation, and to further identify the City’s path forward.

Since October 2022, the City has taken the following steps to listen and learn:

• Presented a series of performances/sessions at the Maclab Centre for the Performing Arts, including Phyllis Sinclair, On The River and Donita Large | Indigenous Series.
• Hosted a Nation-to-Municipality pipe ceremony with Indigenous leaders from the four Nations of Maskwacis and Maskekosihk (Enoch Cree Nation) in the Leduc Civic Centre to begin developing positive relationships with each Nation, while engaging in protocol.
• Coordinated a pipe ceremony and community walk led by Indigenous leaders from Montana First Nation as part of the City’s recognition of Aug. 23: Treaty 6 Day.
• Hosted Gathering Our Medicine, a two-day conference for the community focused on family and raising children through the lens of Indigenous knowledge and wisdom; Indigenous facilitators.
• Invited a consultant from Treaty Partner Advising and Consulting to make Treaty presentations to all the City-appointed boards.
• Attended various learning opportunities, including a land acknowledgment workshop, the Enoch Cree Nation Powwow and Treaty Partner Gathering, a two-day session in Enoch Cree Nation for government administration to share knowledge about Treaty, culture, and the history of this land.
• Provided the community with reading material to help encourage learning through shared, free resources.
• Sponsored the Town of Devon’s Treaty Six Celebrations.
