A green space in the Woodbend neighbourhood has been officially recognized as W.E. Hawkins Park, honouring a former Leduc mayor and local business owner.

W.E. Hawkins served as Leduc’s ninth mayor and owned and operated a local hardware store. The park naming recognizes his contributions to the community and preserves his legacy for future generations.

“Recognizing individuals who have helped shape our community is one way we honour Leduc’s history,” says City of Leduc Mayor Lars Hansen. “Naming W.E. Hawkins Park celebrates the lasting impact of his service and contributions to the city we call home.”

The park name was approved by City Council in January following a recommendation from the Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Board. Residents can find W.E. Hawkins Park in northwest Leduc’s Woodbend neighbourhood, west of Hawthorn Way and north of Lilac Close.
