City recognizes John Jackie with park naming celebration

The City of Leduc celebrated the naming of John Jackie Park on Aug. 29 with a gathering of family, friends and members of City Council, recognizing former councillor and mayor John Jackie for his years of service and contributions to the community.

John Jackie Park, located in the Blackstone community, was officially named in 2021 in recognition of John’s leadership and lasting impact on Leduc. The long-awaited celebration provided an opportunity to formally mark the honour and recognize his contributions alongside those closest to him.

John served the City of Leduc as a councillor from 1989 to 1995 and as mayor from 1995 to 1998. During his time on council, he helped guide Leduc through a period of growth and change while working to strengthen the community he cared deeply about.

His commitment to Leduc extended beyond municipal government. For more than 20 years, John volunteered with the Friends of the Alexandra Pool, supporting recreation and creating opportunities for residents to connect.

John Jackie Park provides green space and a playground for residents to gather and connect for years to come, serving as a lasting reminder of John’s service to the Leduc community.
