The City of Leduc’s Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Board presented its annual update to City Council on June 1, highlighting its work to support vibrant public spaces, community programs, and cultural opportunities for residents.
The PCR board advises Council on City initiatives, grants to organizations, capacity building and future capital planning, as it relates to parks, recreation and culture.
Over the past year, the board’s work has supported a wide range of programs and initiatives, including:
- Citizen recognition programs – Citizens of Distinction and Sports Hall of Fame
- City signature events and Volunteer Leduc
- Parks, open spaces, and future infrastructure growth
- Efforts to further define and expand culture in Leduc
Strengthening grants and partnerships
A major area of focus has been the review and update of the City’s Grants to Organizations (GTO) program. The PRC Board, alongside the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Advisory Board, established a joint subcommittee to modernize policies and improve funding processes.
Program updates are underway in 2026, with implementation and additional refinements planned through 2027.
Building community capacity
The board also continues to strengthen relationships with local organizations by hosting presentations and information sharing sessions. Groups such as the Leduc Soccer Association, Leduc Cats Football, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 108 and Alberta Legacy Development Society have shared insights to help inform board recommendations.
This ongoing engagement helps the City better understand emerging needs and opportunities across parks, recreation, and culture.
Looking ahead, the PRC board remains focused on supporting future growth and enhancing quality of life in Leduc.
