The City of Leduc Youth Council recently presented its 2026 annual update to City Council, highlighting a year of growth and an ambitious path forward for youth engagement in the community.

Youth Council provides a meaningful forum for young people aged 16 to 22 to participate in local government — researching, advising, and planning actions that make a difference in Leduc.

Youth’s Council’s work is guided by a vision of a Safe and Environmentally Sustainable Future Forward. It is grounded in values of community connection, diversity and inclusion, sense of belonging and youth engagement.

Youth Council’s three strategic priorities are:

  1. Understanding the needs of youth in Leduc
  2. Bringing youth perspectives to City Council
  3. Promoting volunteerism in the community

Programs Making an Impact

In 2025 and continuing into 2026, Youth Council participated in several community-focused programs, including:

  • Youth Ambassadors — developing young leaders in the community
  • Community Clean Up & Arbor Day — hands-on environmental stewardship
  • Youth Outdoor Pool Event – Creating safe, fun and inclusive recreational opportunities for local youth
  • Community Clothing Drive – Collecting and distributing clothing donations for youth in need
  • Summer in the City – Engaging with residents through youth-focused programming
