As 2025 draws to a close, the City of Leduc is proud to reflect on another year of progress, community engagement, and renewal. Grounded in the City’s Strategic Plan, the delivery of high-quality programs and services continued to make a real difference in the lives of Leduc’s residents. The following is a sample of programs and services delivered in 2025.
A city where people want to live
- Residents indicated a strong overall satisfaction with quality of life in Leduc, according to results from the 2026 Budget Planning and Citizen Satisfaction Survey.
- The City invested in community safety and enhanced emergency response services, breaking ground on construction of Fire Hall 3.
- Visitors to the City’s website received an improved, more user-friendly experience with the launch of a redesigned Leduc.ca.
- The City’s new e-newsletter, Leduc Link, enhanced the way residents receive and engage with news from the City, with recent open rates (74%) and click through rates (15%) outperforming industry standards (42% and 2% respectively). Sign up to receive Leduc Link.
- The second pilot season for the Deer Valley temporary off-leash park offered residents another opportunity to provide feedback.
- The Traffic Advisory Committee was recognized by the Province with the 2025 Minister’s Award for Community Engagement or Livability for its exceptional work to improve traffic safety in the community.
A city with a plan for the future
- The new Leduc Housing Strategy was approved and began to guide work on making housing more sustainable, affordable, and inclusive for the growing community.
- Plans to expand Leduc’s municipal boundary in order to accommodate growth projections were announced, beginning a lengthy legislative process involving technical studies and public engagement.
- The Urban Centre Redevelopment Plan was completed and approved to help make Leduc’s urban centre accessible, safe and inclusive with diverse housing, business opportunities, high-quality urban design, and transportation connection options.
- The City began to fast-track several key housing-related initiatives, thanks in part to $7.6 million in federal funding to be received through the Housing Accelerator Fund over the next few years.
- The City began working toward a renewed Land Use Bylaw, which is an opportunity to modernize our approach to land use, simplify regulations, address today’s challenges, and plan for future needs. Exploratory work has begun and will extend into 2026 with more opportunities for community input.
- The City’s new Urban Agriculture Plan was approved and is an exciting initiative to expand local food production, improve food access, and promote education and community wellbeing.
- The Transportation Master Plan was updated to support future road infrastructure and active transportation needs.
An economically prosperous city and region
- The 65 Avenue Interchange was completed, opening up vast economic opportunities for the Leduc region by unlocking the Leduc Landing Business Park, and the east-west corridor with enhanced connection between industrial areas, major highways, and the Edmonton International Airport.
- The new Economic Development Strategy prioritizes economic diversification and long-term sustainability, and was developed with input from local businesses, industry leaders, regional partners, and residents.
A collaborative community-builder and regional partner
- The City of Leduc is supporting the Leduc RCMP in a more proactive policing approach that balances firm enforcement with a human-centred lens that respects dignity and individual circumstances. Project Street Light was one successful example of this collaboration.
- A new Policing Committee was established to strengthen the relationship between residents, local government, and law enforcement.
New elected leadership
This year also marked the beginning of a new chapter for the City of Leduc, which welcomed new leadership following the October municipal election. Led by Mayor Lars Hansen, who previously served eight years as city councillor, the new council is comprised of two re-elected councillors and four newly elected members, bringing together a blend of experience and fresh perspectives to guide the work ahead.
