City of Leduc unveils Bringing Community to Life

Thursday, June 14, 2018

The City of Leduc unveiled a painting which showcases neighbourhood pride and a sense of belonging.

Bringing Community to Life was commissioned to capture the camaraderie and community building that makes Leduc such a warm and welcoming city thanks to its ‘good neighbours.’

“We take great pride in being a family-friendly and community-minded city,” says City of Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “We’re very pleased with this painting as it represents that sense of community so well.”

Good Neighbours — Bringing Community to Life will be hung in the Civic Centre following the unveiling to allow members of the public to see it anytime they wish to visit. The painting was created by local artist Susan Abma who has been an oil painter for more than 20 years and has been drawing for most of her life.

The artwork will also serve as the visual component of recognition postcards that will be created and made available for residents to pick up, fill out, and deliver to their ‘good neighbours’ later this year.

“This is just another way for us to continue encouraging citizens to keep making those neighbourhood connections,” said Donna Brock, Director of Community and Social Development. “When people are engaged and connected with their neighbours, they create an additional set of supports.”
