Updated Statement from City Manager Derek Prohar

Tuesday, July 4, 2023

After a productive mediation process, the City of Leduc and the Representative Plaintiffs have reached an amicable resolution to the lawsuit brought against the City of Leduc. Today the courts approved the settlement agreement reached by the City of Leduc and the Representative Plaintiffs.

This is a significant moment in the history of our city – to reflect on our past, show our support for those harmed and to commit to a better future. The settlement is a critical step towards accountability, healing, and the restoration of trust within our community. Regretfully, we cannot undo the harm of the sexual misconduct that was experienced, but we are committed to learning from the past to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Healing will take time. Rebuilding trust will take time. We will do the necessary work and engage in ongoing conversations to ensure that our city is a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

In times like these, it is vital that we come together as a community, supporting one another and working collectively to heal and rebuild trust. Together, we will strive to create an environment that not only reflects the values we hold dear but also safeguards the dignity and well-being of every individual.

Let us move forward united, resilient, and determined to build a safer and more inclusive Leduc.
