Image of the Leduc Emergency Management Agency crestIn 2017, the Leduc Emergency Management Agency (LEMA) was formed in response to Leduc’s growth and need to protect residents from any major emergency or disaster. Under the Emergency Management Act, LEMA provides training, exercises, community awareness, regional collaboration and the maintenance of the municipal emergency plan for the City of Leduc. Municipal departments, allied agencies, and public stakeholders form the agency to provide diverse and inclusive perspective on the city’s emergency management program to serve the well-being of the community.

Disasters and emergencies

LEMA works on mitigating factors to preventable event and preparing a response if an unforeseen situation occurs. Disasters and emergencies can take the form of a:

  • Severe weather event (tornadoes, extreme cold, severe storms, etc.)
  • Water Contamination
  • Hazardous Chemical Exposure
  • Pandemic
  • Wildfire
  • Flood
